Earth Hour 2014, 29th March - Singapore

With the record switch off for Earth Hour 2014, Singapore goes dark for 1 hour to mark its commitment to save the planet on 29th March 2014. The cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and WWF's iconic Panda took part in this symbolic switch-off at The Float at Marina Bay. Various buildings, hotels and malls across Singapore also turned off their lights to participate in this global movement.

    1. The cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is coming to Singapore to celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday, 29 March 2014. That’s Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, together with the director and producers of the show.

    2. Spider-Man will be there for the Official Lights Off Ceremony, putting Singapore at the heart of Earth Hour celebrations around the world

    3. There will be fun things to do, like watching live performances by the LuMen Dancers, Samba Masala and the Invincible Diamonds Cheerleaders. You can even show off your dance moves on Energy Floors to generate electricity!

    Earth Hour 2014 at City Square Mall Singapore

    City Square Mall brings Earth Hour to the Heartlands

    Singapore’s first eco-mall, City Square Mall pledges to be a part of global movement to reduce ecological footprints. 

    As part of the mall’s commitment to environmental sustainability, lights of selected areas around the mall and other non-essential lights would be switched off between 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

    For every item recycled, participants would receive an eco goodie bag from City Square Mall, limited to one eco goodie bag per person, for the first 100 participants. 

    Items to recycle:
    IT Equipment
    Battery chargers, cables, computer mice, desktops, docking stations, hard disk drives, keyboards, laptop, mobile phone batteries, mobile phones, modems, monitors, plugs, tablets and telephones.

    Home Appliances
    Blenders, electric fans, electric kettles, food processors and radios.

    EPIC
    Based on William Joyce's children's book, ‘The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs’, Epic tells the story of a teenager who finds herself transported into a world of tiny beings within a deep forest setting. Caught in the battle between the forces of good and evil, she bands together with a group of characters in order to prevent the destruction of the forest and save the world.

    Conviviality takes centre-stage this Easter at the Mexican-inspired casual eatery Lower East Side Taqueria. Available from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 April, Un Menú Glorioso De Pascua will take the form of a staggering 8-dish affair laid out in full glory at each table for friends and families to gather around.

    A Glorious Easter Feast
    The Easter fiesta includes the intriguing Cuello de Pollo (fried chicken neck seasoned with salt and white pepper), moreish Spicy Mozzarella Fritters, fiery Pollo Rojo (grilled ‘red’ chicken with chilli pepper sauce), tempura Crispy Dory Fillet with Guacamole, and sweet char-grilled Elote (corn with butter and cheese)

    Easter Egg Painting Competition
    Diners can express their creativity by taking part in the Easter Egg painting competition, which runs the whole weekend from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 April, to win a $100 dining voucher for Lower East Side Taqueria. Entries can be submitted on the restaurant’s Facebook page, or posted on Instagram with the tag #LowerEastSideSG. The winner will be announced the following week on Facebook.

Nearby is a dedicated children’s corner brimming with kids’ favourites including pasta, meat, poultry and fish dishes, salads and desserts.

    Bountiful fresh marine harvests from around the world will fete seafood lovers. Boston lobsters, New Zealand green lipped mussels, Alaskan king crab legs and Fine de Claire oysters from France make their rounds in the cold section, whilst Singapore’s perennial favourite – the chilli crab – tempt diners from one of the six live theatre kitchens.

    The resort transforms itself into an exciting playground for families – all decked with chocolate eggs and bunnies of various colours and sizes.
    A sumptuous Easter Garden Party will be available by the waterfront at Atmosphere by the sea. The buffet spread brims with freshly shucked French oysters, lobsters, king crabs and giant prawns, while a live station dishes out succulent grills and roasts. An assorted French cheese platter with desserts and Easter specials await diners to complete the feast, whilst magic shows and children’s activities enliven the special occasion.

    Diners may enjoy complimentary access to the resort’s swimming pools, children’s slides and splash pad after the meal. 

    The buffet lunch is available from noon to 3:00 p.m. A child under 12 years dines free with a paying adult.

    At the Silver Shell Cafe, an Easter buffet dinner is in full swing. Culinary highlights include roast leg of lamb, prime ribs, freshly shucked oysters and lobsters with desserts such as Yorkshire pudding. The dedicated children’s buffet corner is stocked with every favourite imaginable; from hot dishes to desserts including chocolate eggs, chocolate bunnies and Easter cupcakes. The buffet dinner is available from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
